It had been a month since Ronin was killed and became a full Shinigami. He had lost his memory and had to rely on what others told him about what he was like. Yuri had said that he should meet Emi, and what better theme than a picnic. He only hoped that she was not disappointed.
When did Yuri say she was coming? Maybe I should have paid more attention rather than put in extra time in my studies at the academy...
Ronin shrugged, setting up the area for the picnic. It was a nice day, perfect for talking and catching up. He put out the sandwiches as well as Emi's favorite drink, according to Yuri. He even set up an umbrella in case the sun got too hot or it rained out of nowhere. He may not have his memories, but there were certain things that seemed to come naturally to him. Most things in the academy felt like he had done them already, making it easier to preform the tasks. As his mind started to wander, he saw someone coming in the distance. Apparently he had gotten the time correct after all.

She was very excited to spend some time with her father. It's been so long since she's seen him, it was hard for her to remember what he looked or sounded like. She was a little scared, but figured it would be nice to see him. Her mother would tell her stories about him all the time when it came to her bed time. The way the stories were, he sounded so cool and stuff!
She wasn't going alone, however. As a safety measure, Jiro was asked to take Megumi to the meeting place where Ronin was having the picnic. He would stay there behind the scenes to make sure everything goes okay. It wasn't that he doubted Ronin. There were rumors about Shinigami hunters and Jiro didn't want to take any chances since Ronin and Emi wer involves and neither did Yuri.
When the two arrived, Emi had hid behind Jiro's leg upon seeing Ronin. It wasn't that she was scared or anything. It was more or less her acting shy. Hard to believe when she was so energetic before coming here. Jiro noticed what Emi was doing and couldn't help but to smile. Perhaps some encouragement would help ease her.
"There's no need to be afraid or shy, little one. I know first hand how Ronin is a great man. Just talk to him and get to know hi m. He is your father after all. He won't let anything bad happen to you. Though,, I hope you two won't mind if I stay around. There's been rumors of a group that's after Shinigami. I haven't heard if they have been resolved yet, so Yuri wants me to take any and all precaution."
After hearing Jiro speak, she slowly approaches Ronin, looking up to him. He was tall! Way so much than her! Then again, she is just a child after all. She ran over to him and gave him a tight hug on his leg. It was obvious she was happy yo see him. It was then when Jiro left their line of vision to give them some alone time, but still close enough to watch over the two.
"Hiya Papa~ I missed you~"

Ronin shifted his eyes to Emi, smiling lightly. She was just like Yuri described, though he could tell something was on her mind. Out of reflex, Ronin reached out and ruffled her hair. He sat on the blanket he set out for the picnic, leaving room for her to sit where she choose. He thought for a second, remembering that Yuri said she liked being called Emi.
"Hey Emi, how have you been? I was going to visit sooner, but I have been busy with classes. I'm ahead of schedule or so they say."
He poured Emi some of her favorite drink, letting her pick up whatever sandwich she wanted. Yuri said that she liked them all, so he decided to let her pick the one she wanted. Ronin was a little nervous, mostly because he had no idea how she was going to react to him being near her.
This is more stressful than any of the classes or instructors i have in the academy. I hope she doesn't think I am lame or anything...

The little one picked up her drink, taking a quick sip out of it, looking at all the different sandwiches. She takes a nibble out of each one, as if getting a taste of all of them. They were good, but she was incredibly picky on who she eats her food from. Rather, she's picky on who cooks it, anyway. Ronin seemed like he was trying, so she would at least try to as well. Still, it was kinda weird on why he hasn't been around. He did say it was because of the Academy, but this is a four year old he's talking to. Stuff like that went way over her head.
"It ish okay, Papa. I've been playing with Ami and Shi! I have a question though.. I get that you're trying to be a Shini-mi. Though.. why don't you and Mama stay together? Are.. Are you mad at Mama?! Or.. Is Mama mad with you?? Why would you be mad at each other?? OR.. is it for another reason?? C'mon, Papa! I wanna know!"

Ronin blinked, looking at Emi. He was sure that she would not understand, but he decided to give it his best shot. He did his best to make it simple, in hope she would follow his explanation.
"Well, until I graduate I have to stay on the camp grounds. It is to ensure that no one gets outside help in their training. This keeps it fair for everyone."
He ate some of the food he made, wondering how Emi liked the food. He knew she was picky about how her food was made and who made it, but he decided to try it anyway. He had gotten her favorite foods, desserts, and drinks from Yuri, hoping he followed her instructions as best he could while balancing his studies.

Emi was content eating the goodies that were brought along. After all, they really tasted just like how her mother makes them so she wasn't going to complain much at all. When he said he had to stay at the academy until he's done, it just made her tilt her head to the side. The little one was trying to understand what he just said. It sounded reasonable, whatever he said.
"Ohhh, I get it! They don't want you cheating! Not like you would Cheat, Papa!"
She took another sip of her drink, looking to him. She was really enjoying herself. Then, she had an idea. She giggled at the thought, soon grabbing his and and tugging on it.
"Papa, since you're gonna be a Shini-mi, can you teach me some stuffs? If you don't wanna, that ish fine. Still, Why don't we play a game?!"

Ronin looked at Emi with his red and black eyes, ruffling her hair. He wasn't sure if he should, but she was so excited. Maybe something small wouldn't hurt, it would keep her happy too and that would be a plus. He thought for a second, then took her to a secluded area.
"Emi, what would you like to learn? I will teach you one thing, so tell me what it is. But you have to promise not to use it unless it is an emergency."
He leaned against a tree, waiting for his daughter to make her choice. He just hoped that she would not pick something complex that could cause damage if done incorrectly.

Emi had to ponder for a moment on what she wanted her father to teach her. She was thinking back on what she has seen everyone do, which wasn't much, anyway. It was like they were hiding all the good stuff from her and it wasn't fair at all! She would show them just what she could do! What better way to do than than to learn some kind of Kido?
"Uhm, I would like to learn some kind of uh... Ki..Kai.. Kaido, Papa! Everyone I know knows so many! I wanna know something to!"
Then when he mentioned that he would as long as she promised she would use it for an emergency. She would do her very best to keep that promise!
"I pwonise, Papa! I'll only use if if there's like.. this really, really, REALLY strong bad guy that comes outta nowhere!"

Ronin had a feeling that she was going to ask that, knowing it could be dangerous. Ronin ruffled Emi's hair, taking her inside a cave. He was going to teach her in an area where she could do minimal damage. He showed her how to do a simple Kido, making sure she paid VERY close attention to what he was doing. He made her memorize the incantation, having her repeat it to him without her using the technique.
"Alright Emi, now try it out. Use white lightning on that rock in the corner there"
Ronin pointed at the rock in the far corner, hoping that the rocks in the cave will be ample enough for her to perfect her aim.

Emi just watched in awe when she watched him perform the kido. She was really excited that he was teaching her. She made sure to really pay attention to everything he said and did. She wanted to have everything memorized. When it was her turn to try, Emi was giggling. She was so excited she couldn't contain it anymore
"Awright, here I go~"
She did everything her father did and even tried to mimic his stance when he performed the Kido. When she successfully performed it, however, there was a strong recoil which knocked her flat on her butt. She hit her target however, and that made her very happy and yet..hungry at the same time.
"I did it, Papa! Didja see it?! I'm hungry now.. Can we go eat some more food, pwease?"

Ronin ruffled her hair, picking her up. He headed back to the picnic area, shifting his eyes around. He set Emi down on the blanket, letting her pick out what she wanted to eat. He knew she was going to keep using the kido, which is why he taught her a basic one. He picked out a sandwich, eating it slowly.
"You did very well for the first time. When you practice it, and i know you will, do it in a private place with someone you trust. Not your mother, she'll flip out..."
Ronin ruffled her hair again, pouring more of the drink for them. He knew he had to bring Emi back to Yuri soon, classes were going to begin again in the morning.

As the day went by, Yuri finished up all the work she needed to do. She was glad that Megumi could spend time with her father and vise versa. She could only imagined how they day could have gone for the two of them. She felt a bit bad for not being there with them both, but she was sure Ronin would understand and with Emi being so young, it shouldn't be too much trouble. Heading to the area where the picnic was being held, she heard Emi call out to her.
With a smile, Yuri waved to her daughter who quickly got up and ran over to her to give her a hug. Picking her up, Yuri gave the little one a big hug.
"Have you been a good girl for Papa?"
With a giggle, Emi nodded her head. The captain can already tell that she had a lot of fun and that was all that mattered to her. Adjusting Emi in her arms, she turns to speak to Ronin. He hasn't changed a bit at all. Well, his appearance, anyway.
"Thank you for spending time with Emi. She really likes spending time with you. How are your classes going?"

Ronin shifted his eyes to Yuri, noting that she was closer to him than she normally stood. Although several people told him that they were very close, he couldn't remember any of it. Even so, there was something about her that he couldn't place. It was like a bond or feeling, one that made him want to be around her as often as possible. He shifted his red eyes to her fully, getting to his feet.
"Classes are kind of boring. All the stuff they teach is easy. They say that it will take time but two minutes later i have it down. I just don't get how the other students struggle so much."
He fixed up his robe and zanpaktou, stretching his shoulders. He made a quick face to Emi, letting his daughter know not to tell her mother what they were doing. He ruffled his daughter's hair, smiling at her and Yuri. It was a fun day, and was hoping to have more like them.

Yuri caught a glimpse of the face Ronin gave to his daughter. She tilted her head in confusion. They must have been up to something silly or whatever. For now, she would let it slide. It's not often the two of them get to be around each other. However, it wasn't a surprise Ronin was moving quickly in his classes. Technically he's done similar stuff, but now, it's more official. If he keeps progressing, he may get to finish the academy sooner than expected.
"That's good to hear. Keep it up and you may graduate early. It's rare, but I heard things like that can happen. Maybe one day we can all do something together either here in Soul Society or the Living World. Actually, I have an idea! Maybe on a day or week you're not busy with the Academy, let's go to the beach!"
She remembered the last time she was at the beach. Well, both times, really. They were both fun. It would be a great chance for everyone to hang out.
"I'll talk to Captain Yamamoto to see if it's alright. What do you say?"
After adjusting Emi in her arms again, she felt the little one rest her head on her shoulder. Yuri couldn't help but to smile. The poor thing must be tired. She looked to Ronin, waiting for him to answer.

Ronin blinked, a little confused. He never heard of a beach before, but the notion seemed oddly familiar. He shook off the feeling, looking to Yuri.
"Beach... sure, we could do that... there is a break coming up, a few days off. Just let me know and I'll figure out how to get there."
He saw Emi start to doze off on Yuri, unable to stop the smirk from forming on his face. He picked up the blanket, covering his daughter with it carefully. He then packed up all the supplies, standing beside Yuri. There was only one thing on his mind.
What the hell is a beach?
